How Fast Does Hair Grow?

The hair is one of a woman's physical assets. Isn't it that when you see a woman with long shiny hair whether it's straight or wavy, your eyes follow her? Similarly, people get attracted to men who have great looking hair.

Many of us may just be content with washing our hair every day. But that's not enough because our crowning glory needs proper care and maintenance to make it healthy and grow faster. Apart from washing it every day, we should see to it that we take the extra steps to nourish it and give it a trim on a regular basis.

Human hair comes in different colors and texture. Each strand consists of three layers - the outer layer called the cuticle, the inner layer known as the medulla and the cortex which determines the type of hair whether it's straight or curly.

Hair goes through several phases during its growth cycle. These are the anagen, catagen and telogen. The anagen is the growth period that takes from two to eight years. This particular phase differs from one individual to another. Some who have long anagen growth rates can grow their hair very long while the others only have short growth periods. Each month, hair grows at an average rate of one-half inch.

The second phase is the catagen also known as the transitional period. This is the time when the hair stops growing and the hair follicle shrinks.

The last phase is called the telogen. This is the resting period during which the hair does not yet grow. This may take from two to four months before the hair goes back to the anagen phase. During this phase, dead hair is pushed upwards as it is detached from the blood supply. You may notice then some hair falling. In fact, a person sheds approximately 50 to 100 strands of hair every month.

Other than being knowledgeable of the normal process our hair goes through each day, there are still some steps we can take to enhance the speed of our hair growth. Remember that proper nutrition plays a key role. This means eating a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals. The B Vitamins (inositol, niacin, panthenol, biotin, B6, B12) are essential and they're found in whole grains, eggs, fish, meat, milk and fresh fruits. Vitamins A, C and E are antioxidants and are important as well.

The minerals that can help improve hair growth include iron, calcium, copper, manganese and potassium. Iron is vital for improved blood circulation in the head and in preventing anemia. Calcium makes hair stronger and this can be found in dairy products, fish, nuts, beans and yeast. Manganese can be taken from beans, grains, avocado, nuts, eggs, fish and other meats.

Using certain home remedies will be helpful. These are normally made from organic ingredients and are proven to have no side effects. Some of them include the use of aloe vera, coconut oil or milk, rosemary and tea tree oil which are massaged on the scalp to improve circulation and moisture.

Boosting hair growth is very possible. All you need is to take care of your hair and nourish it as often as possible.
