You'll find the answer to that question in this article, as well as some other information about the things that affect the hair's health and appearance, as well as the skin and nails.

The health and appearance of the skin, hair and nails are closely related. Any health problem affecting the "inside" of the body will ultimately show up on the outside of the body.

Sometimes, the first symptoms of an illness or disease are visible in skin problems, brittle nails or thinning hairlines, before other symptoms are noticed. That is particularly true of nutritional deficiencies.

Blood tests can be used to measure for nutritional deficiencies, but because there are so many essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, doctors rarely check for all of them, unless they are having difficulty diagnosing an illness. What that means to you is that a visit to the doctor will usually lead to a prescription for something that works for most people.

It's the "let's try this attitude". Blood tests are so expensive. A doctor might recommend biotin for hair loss, but more than likely, a prescription for Propecia (finasteride) will be written.

Propecia doesn't work for everyone. When it does work, the mechanism of action, according to the pharmaceutical companies, is to inhibit an enzymatic reaction that converts free testosterone in the bloodstream to DHT, dihydrotestosterone.

In some people, the follicles that produce hairs are sensitive to DHT. When they are exposed to it, they begin to shrink, stop producing and may eventually die.

The sensitivity is attributed to genetic differences. Some researchers believe that they have identified the single gene that accounts for the difference.

- It is a necessary cofactor for the metabolism of amino acids, from which the body produces the protein keratin, the primary structural proteins that make up human hairs
- It is necessary for a cell growth (hairs are composed of individual cells)
- It is necessary for the body to produce fatty acids, which are the primary components of the natural oils produced by the body. The oils prevent breakage and provide protection from damaging wind, sun and styling.
- In general, taking biotin for hair loss strengthens the hair and improves the condition of the fingernails, too. Fingernails and skin cells are also composed of keratin.

Although vitamin B7 is found in many foods, much of it is not absorbed into the bloodstream. That could explain why many people need a supplement.

The most effective nutritional regimen would be to take a supplement designed specifically for alopecia (unexplained hair-loss or balding), even if you are already taking a multi-vitamin. Men with male pattern baldness benefit from a supplement that contains saw palmetto, too. Its action is similar to Propecia, but not accompanied by side effects.

In addition to taking biotin for hair loss, you can also try a topically applied solution. Just be sure to do a little comparative shopping, before you buy. Some solutions do not contain ingredients that are proven effective.

Unfortunately, hair dying entails consequences that may damage and dry your hair when used inappropriately. The selected color of your dye should blend with the original color of your hair and eyebrows and to enhance your features. Experimenting is good, but dyes can be rough on your hair when used frequently. Although it is best to dye at a professional salon or stylist, it is much cheaper at home with the same creative effect. Before you see the top 10 hair dying mistakes, it is important to have an understanding of the different types of hair dye that are available so you can put them in context.

Types of Hair Dye

Hair

1. Permanent hair dye

Top 10 Hair Dying Mistakes

While dying your hair permanantly is, by some, considered in and of itself a mistake, the obvious benefit is that it lasts for a considerable time. As the hair grows, it is applied to the roots. It contains ammonia and peroxides, which can possibly cause dryness and damage. Exposure to the sun and salt water will cause the color to fade. That's why in order to maintain the color, it is best to cover your hair by using a hat or bandanna when going outside.

2. Long-lasting Semi-permanent

As the name implies, has the longest life remaining even after more than 20 washes, depending on the brand.

3. Semi-permanent

These have the shortest lifespan for dyes. After 6-12 washes, the color will start to fade. This is recommended for first-time users and those who want to experiment with colors.

How to dye your hair safely and professionally:

- Separate hair into two quadrants. Then clip each part.

- Wear plastic gloves while mixing dye solution. Follow the directions written on the box.

- Squeeze a small amount of coloring into one quadrant. Streak thin stripes of color over the whole area of the quadrant. Put a clip on the colored part.

- Repeat the process after you have completed coloring the four quadrants.

- Consult instructions on how long you should leave it. Add a couple of minutes of wait to that of the suggested treatment time.

- Put on left over color mix to the entire head after a few minutes.

- Rinse with cold water.

Top 10 hair dying mistakes!

- Number 10: Applying dye to dirty, tangled hair

Deep condition your hair a month before dying to maintain color. Be sure your hair is relatively clean before applying. Trim hair especially dry and split ends to even out color. Hair should be slightly damp when dye is applied.

- Number 9: Using hair conditioner before you dye

Do not condition your hair a few hours before applying hair dye, shampooing will do the trick. Your hair needs to be free of free radicals such as dirt and oil as much as possible.

- Number 8: Choosing hair dye based on what the model on the box looks like

Consult the local salon or stylist on what colors would look best on you. The hair dye you choose should have the same tone as your skin color.

- Number 7: Forgetting to check for allergic contents

After choosing a brand, apply a tiny amount of hair dye near your neck or behind your ear to see if irritation, redness, inflammation, allergy, hair loss or any bad reactions occur. Wash the affected area right away if this happens. Remember the instructions carefully. Do the patch test 1-2 days before hair dye application.

- Number 6: Doing your entire head without testing a small amount of your hair first

Do a strand test by applying a bit of dye to a few stands of your hair to see if you got the right color.

- Number 5: Staining your skin or clothes

Protect your skin by wrapping a towel around your neck as the dye can irritate your skin or affect your clothes. Gloves should be used and must be included in a hair dye kit. Applying petroleum jelly or cream around your ears and neck part will keep off stains. Wipe off oil after shampooing. If you do happen to stain your skin, don't worry, rubbing alcohol will remove dye stains from your skin

- Number 4: Picking a color that does not fit with your natural hair color

Pick a color one shade lighter when dying your roots. This will make the transition from your colored hair back to your natural hair color graceful without roots that are a completely different color sticking out. Obviously, this rule does not apply if you are dying your hair a completely different color than your natural hair color.

- Number 3: Losing hair

After dying, always rinse with cold or tepid water to avoid your own hair from falling out.

- Number 2: Over-dying hair

If you did not achieve the desired effect, using Liquid Tide can correct this. A couple of days of use will lighten the color until your hair returns to the original color. Instead of over-dying, do touch-ups every four to five weeks to keep your hair color picture perfect.

- Number 1: Dying eyebrows and eyelashes

Never use hair dye on eyebrows and eyelashes! Ask for medical help when dye gets into your eye.

Here's Why
Itchy scalp and hair loss can be very frustrating and worrying, and there can be a number of factors which cause or aggravate the hair loss. The hair loss caused by itchy scalp problems is not always permanent, and will often grow back once the main itchy scalp problem is sorted out.

In saying this though, it is vital that you take swift action to properly diagnose the problem and search for suitable remedies and treatments in order to avoid long term scarring from the itchy scalp irritation, and thus enable your hair to begin growing back.

\"hair Loss\"

Here I'd like to tell you about a few common reasons for itchy scalp hair loss and what you can do to alleviate the problem.

Itchy Scalp Hair Loss? Here's Why

Folliculitis - strong ingredients in shampoos can damage hair follicles and lead to infections such as folliculitis.

Symptoms are normally small, white-headed pimples around one or more hair follicles. Deep folliculitis will often result in larger painful red boils.

If left untreated the folliculitis can significantly injure the hair follicle resulting in localised areas of scarring and bald patches where there are no visible follicles; this is known as "cicatricial alopecia".

Antibiotics are often used to treat folliculitis, but as with all antibiotics they can lead to a resistance to the antibiotic used. Natural remedies containing Tea Tree Oil or Lavender Oil can be extremely effective in treating the itchy scalp hair loss of folliculitis, particularly in the early stages, and can help to stimulate hair growth.

Ringworm of the scalp (tinea capitis) - a superficial fungal infection of the scalp. It is caused by mold-like fungi called dermatophytes, and the symptoms include red, itchy patches on the scalp, hair loss and, if left untreated, can also lead to cicatricial alopecia.

The skin might peel or scale and be red and itchy, with swollen blisters or a rash (that can spread) that appears as black dots.

The rash, being highly contagious, is normally treated with over the counter products containing miconazole, clotrimazole, or similar ingredients. Sometimes prescription medications are needed to clear it up.

There are many natural products that can be used to aid the healing process and act as natural antibiotics, but it must be stressed that ringworm is an aggressive fungus requiring close monitoring and appropriate treatment.

Psoriasis - said to affect some 2.5% of the US population (about 7 or 8 million people) psoriasis is a fairly common, non-contagious skin disease in which the skin cells replace themselves too quickly and cause red lesions covered with scale to appear.

Scalp psoriasis is said to affect at least half of all psoriasis sufferers and is characterized by white scales on patches of very red skin, often accompanied by severe itching and possibly temporary baldness on the affected areas.

Using a shampoo containing zinc pyrithione (in its natural form) can be extremely effective at combating psoriasis and itchy scalp hair loss in general, as it has very strong anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.

Home remedies using birch or avocado oil are also extremely effective in soothing and healing psoriasis.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis - similar in appearance to eczema (Atopic Dermatitis), this is an inflammatory reaction to the proliferation of a yeast called Malassezia (or Pityrosporum Ovale). It produces toxic substances that irritate the skin. This yeast is always present on the scalp in small numbers and feeds on the natural oils produced there.

Imbalances in the levels of oils (sebum) on the scalp, (often due to harsh shampoos, conditioners and hair dyes) can cause the yeast to multiply and grow, resulting in dry redness, flaking, itchy scalp and sometimes cause temporary hair loss. The flakes of skin are normally characterized by a yellowish colour and oily texture.

Since the dermatitis is generally caused by the use of harsh shampoos and the stripping and drying out of the scalp, it is advisable to use a shampoo containing only natural ingredients like Tea Tree Oil which will not only help to fight the infection but will control the yeast and condition the skin, as well as maintain the natural pH balance of the scalp. There are many different treatments for hair loss, some are natural where as some are artificial and others are a hybrid of both.
Health Starts From Within

The same type of food that is considered diet food is also very good for the production and development of your hair. The goes for males and females but today we are going to focus specifically on the ladies. Diet plays a very big role in hair health so if you eat a diet composed of fried foods your hair will most likely be brittle and break easily.

Omega oils are also important in your diet, they promote healthy joints and hair growth. People who lack these healthy fats develop arthritis faster and their hair generally grows slower. Iron is also something that is key in hair development. Women generally have low iron levels after childbirth which can lead to hair loss and breakage.

Eating foods like red meat, lentils and poultry can raise your iron levels. When you fry foods it lowers their nutritional value so try to eat food that is fresh and grilled if at all possible. Vitamin B-12 is one of the keys to feminine hair loss. You can find it in foods like shellfish, milk and eggs. Your hair has to have vitamin B-12 to be healthy.

Many women suffer from the lack of healthy B12 levels one this is treated their hair usually becomes healthy in as little as a few months. So if you are having problems with hair loss this will stop it and encourage new hair growth. Vitamin B7 is also a key player in hair loss. It helps grow new follicles by making the scalp as healthy as possible.

You can find biotin in your every day diet in foods like peanuts, liver and raw egg yolks. The egg white counter acts the effects of the biotin so if you want to obtain B7 like that make sure you only ingest the yolk. The most common way to get biotin in your system is with hair vitamins or by taking a biotin supplement. The recommended daily dose of biotin an adult should in take is right around 600mcg's a day.

Another great supplement to add to the list is zinc oxide which helps balance out hormone levels which can lead to premature hair loss. The average adult should ingest about 20mg of zinc oxide a day. Folic acid is also very important in hair growth it is also know as Vitamin B9 or Bc. It helps make your scalp more healthy and inhibits new hair growth in combination with B12.

Natural Plants That Help with Hair Growth

A groups of herbs that are great for hair growth are know as a botanical blend called trichogen. Trichogen was developed in Europe it is basically a botanical blend of 18 different herbs that when mixed together help put your hair back into a healthy growth phase. When hair becomes healthy it will grow stronger and faster. When the follicle is at its healthiest is when you are going to see the most progress. This may not be able to stop hair fall completely but it can drastically slow it down.

Hair growth can be affected during menopause by HRT which is also know as hormone replacement therapy. This is where neutral hormones are put back into a womens body to regulate her level. This can effect hair growth, if the levels are too low the hair will grow slowly and be weak so having correct levels are very important. A good natural replacement is green tea the antioxidants help balance out testosterone and other hormones.

There are many other things said to work for hair growth, wether they do or not is really up to the person who uses them. Everyone is different for one person licorice extract may lead to new growth depending on why the hair was not growing before. For others it may not due anything because the hair loss is due to stress not lack of certain vitamins or minerals.

Reasons to Care About Your Hair

There are certain hair products that are more prone to damage your hair, this is a clear cut fact. Damaging products can cause things like weak hair and thin hair. The hair thins because the bulb that holds it in place deteriorates causing the hair to simply fall out. If you are having trouble with thinning hair using a color treatment or chemical treatment is a huge gamble. Most of the time it won't due any damage, but every once in a while it will cause your hair to fall out in large patches. This is caused because your scalp gets irritated and swells causing the follicle to die and fall out.

When you first start thinking of getting hair extensions, you may be very overwhelmed by all the different methods available today and how each one is designed for a particular type of hair. Researching all the different methods is very important and the quality of your research may directly relate to whether your hair extensions will be good or bad.

Hair Extensions For Fine Or Thin Hair

Question:

Hello. I am interested in getting hair extensions, but I am a little concerned about what they can do to your hair. I am only a teen but i have thin/fine hair that is a little damaged from blow-drying and frequent use of the flat iron. I want to know if hair extensions could ruin my hair and if it is a bad idea to get them? I do not want cause any further damage or like permanently ruin my hair. Write back with any solutions or advice if possible. Thanks.

Answer:

I am not a professional cosmetologist, so I cannot give you a professional opinion. However, I have done extensive research on hair extensions and I can share with you some information that I have learned.Human hair extensions are very heavy, and if attached to hair that is damaged, they can result in permanent hair loss. The extensions can pull out your natural hair because of the extra weight of the human hair and the damaged condition of your natural hair. Synthetic hair extensions weigh about 1/3 the weight of human hair and may be more suitable for your situation. You can do a stress test on your hair yourself to see how damaged it is. Take one strand of hair and pull it. If it comes out very easily, then your hair may not be suitable for extensions. If you have to pull it pretty hard, then your hair may be okay. There are several hair extension methods that have been developed specifically for fine and thin hair. You can research the methods at our Hair Extension Resource Center. If you really want to get hair extensions, perhaps the best place to start is schedule several hair extension consulations at different salons near you. Get different opinions about how damaged your hair really is and whether it could support hair extensions. However, some methods that have been used work on some people. Here are some suggestions for natural remedies to hair loss. Massage Massaging the scalp in general for a couple of minutes a day can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and in mild cases stimulate some hair growth in minor cases of temporary hair loss. There are several electric massagers on the market that have an attachment for scalp massaging as well. An oriental method called Qi Gong (pronounced Chi Kung) has been used to increase circulation to the scalp and face also. Aromatherapy A blend of six drops each of lavender and bay essential oils in a base of four ounces of either almond, soybean or sesame oil massaged into the scalp and allowed to sit for 20 minutes has been used by aroma therapists to stimulate the scalp. Saw Palmetto Extract There is a definite connection between the prostate and hair loss for men. Saw Palmetto has been found to work in fighting benign prostatic disease by lowering levels of DHT, which is a known cause of androgenetic alopecia. Saw Palmetto extract is an effective anti-androgen and shows promise as an effective treatment for hair loss prevention. More information on Saw Palmetto for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Women on oral contraceptives or hormone therapy should not take Saw Palmetto. Nettle Root Extract Nettles are rich in vitamins A and C, several key minerals and lipids that can be beneficial to the hair. Nettle Root Extract has been used successfully in Europe as an inhibitor of 5-alpha reductase in treating BPH. Rosemary and Sage Rosemary and sage are two herbs that have shown benefit traditionally when used externally. Boil together in water rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock. Then strain the loose herbs from the liquid and use the liquid to wash the hair daily. Jojoba Oil If you are predisposed to seborrhea, eczema, psoriasis, or dandruff, you could consider using jojoba oil. Mexicans and southwestern Native American nations have used jojoba oil traditionally for centuries to promote hair growth and the control of dandruff. Jojoba oil is great for hypoallergenic skin because it is a great moisturizer and mimics the scalp's own sebum. Aloe Vera Aloe Vera has been used by Native Americans, Indians and many in the Caribbean to promote healthy hair and prevent hair loss. Aloe's can help the scalp by healing it and balancing the pH level of the scalp while cleansing the pores. A common preparation of Aloe Vera gel with a small amount of wheat germ oil and coconut milk is used as a shampoo and has traditionally shown great benefit. Henna Henna is a traditional Indian herb that acts as a natural conditioner and is excellent for the maintenance of healthy hair. It can help heal the hair shaft by repairing and sealing the cuticle, protecting hair against breakage and loss of shine. Polysorbate-80 Polysorbate-80 is an FDA approved surfactant that is also approved as a food additive. Although not proven, Polysorbate-80 is said to remove deposits of DHT and cholesterol from the scalp. Polysorbate-80 is being recommended by some naturopathic practitioners as an application for the scalp approximately 15 minutes prior to shampooing. Cleansing and Detoxification Cleansing should be a major part of your regimen to maintain and grow hair. Many scalp related diseases are directly the result of toxemia, while toxins in the body adversely affecting the body's systems indirectly affect other conditions. Cleansing can be performed through oral means regularly and occasionally by enema or colonic irrigation. More remedies for detoxification Psyllium husk Fiber is vital to cleansing, and most North American diets are deficient in natural fiber. Psyllium husk is a bulking laxative agent that can be used to safely move waste through the colon. Psyllium is a very good substance as it gently scrubs the walls of the colon to remove waste that is stuck to the walls.

Exercise Finally, although exercise does absolutely nothing directly to grow hair, most holistic practitioners recommend it. Exercising can improve blood flow, the delivery of oxygen to the cells of the body, and help the digestion of foods, all things that aid the health of hair follicles. Acting in the body in many of the same ways as insulin, this potent antioxidant acts inside cells, on the surface of cells, and between them.

Alpha-lipoic acid enables your cellular furnaces known as mitochondria, to burn glucose safely by soaking up the excess free radicals of oxygen that otherwise might injure your cells. It protects the lining of your red blood cells from the caramelization process known as glycosylation, (the process that makes HbA1c), and it encourages the flow of fluid in your tissues so that you might even get a tighter abdomen and a better defined jaw line, even as you gain lower blood sugar levels.

\"Biotin\"

The benefits of alpha-lipoic acid are greatest, however, when taken the right way. The biggest mistake type 2 diabetics make with this supplement is to take too much all at once.

Alternative Health - The Best Way to Take Alpha Lipoic Acid and Have Lower Blood Sugar Levels!

In general:

If your stomach feels like it is fizzing, you have taken too much

If your urine smells sulfurous, you have taken too much, and

If your blood sugar level plummets with no other identifiable cause, you have really, really taken too much.

And taking too high a dose of this most potent of all antioxidant supplements for type 2 diabetics, just does not do your body good. The half-life of lipoic acid in the bloodstream is less than 2 hours. Substances we take into our bodies don't know they are supposed to follow rigid mathematical rules but, more or less half the lipoic acid you take is gone 2 hours later, and nearly 90% is gone six hours later.

So to get continuous benefit from this antioxidant, it's important to take smaller doses throughout the day instead of one large dose in the morning. For instance, if you could benefit from taking 1,200mg daily, take 200mg at your main meals, at snacks and before bedtime to give you 24-hour antioxidant protection.

The metabolic processes supported by lipoic acid requires the addition of B vitamin biotin. You need to add 100mg of biotin for every 1,000mg of lipoic acid you take. Biotin can be taken all at once, or you may prefer to use a brand of lipoic acid combined with biotin in the same capsule. Either way, you need more biotin every day.

It's also possible to buy more expensive products that contain R-lipoic-acid. If you are buying "alpha-lipoic acid," you are getting a mixture of two isomers of lipoic-acid. One has atoms arranged with a leftward or "sinister" twist, and is known as S-lipoic-acid. The other has atoms arranged with a rightward twist, and is known as R-lipoic-acid. The usual manufacturing process creates a mixture of both forms.

The human body only recognizes R-lipoic-acid: about 40% of "alpha-lipoic acid" is actually R-lipoic-acid, so it's better value to pay about twice as much for R-lipoic-acid products. Take half the dose but twice as much biotin.

Oftentimes, the food choices you eat everyday do not provide your body with all the needed vitamins and nutrients, and an excellent way to fill-in this gap is to take certain vitamins. But what if you have hair loss problems? Do you think there is one vitamin that you can take?

The answer to that question is a yes. There is a vitamin that you can take and that is 'D'. Hair loss and rickets are the primary symptoms of vitamin D deficiency.

\"hair Loss\"

Researchers and scientists have conducted an experiment using mice as their medium. According to the study, vitamin D can indeed help in preventing hair loss and this is supported by the effects of giving the 'D' vitamin to the mice. If this occurs in young adults, the individual may be suffering from vitamin deficiency, particularly vitamin D. However, some points of the study were not very clear and so the research is still ongoing.

D - The Essential Hair Loss Vitamin

Omega 3 is a factor that affects the biological process of the 'D' vitamin. The modern lifestyle of today usually involves doing mostly indoor activities and so you don't get enough sunlight which is an excellent source of vitamin D. But according to some researches, this is not the main reason. Researchers pointed out the diet lacking of essential fatty acids as one of the major cause vitamin D deficiency. How did this happen?

It's quite simple. You see, your body can produce or manufacture vitamin D on its own. However, it will need essential fatty acids. The fatty acids are the ones responsible for producing cholesterol and at the same time removing its excess. The fatty acids are also needed in the fundamental bodily functions. In order to manufacture vitamin D, the body needs cholesterol. If you don't get enough fatty acids, especially the essential ones, your body can't produce its own 'D' vitamins. This will result to a deficiency. Psoriasis and flaky scalp are some of the effects of this deficiency.

Deficiencies in L-lysine and copper may also result to hair loss as well as deficiencies in zinc and copper. So you see, aside from the vitamin D deficiency, there are other vitamins lacking in the body that can result to hair loss. However, the major vitamin that you definitely need is the 'D' vitamin.

There are various manufactures of vitamin D all over the world. Try to conduct a research and check for the reputable sellers and suppliers. This way, you can ensure yourself that you're using high quality vitamins. Some vitamins are cheaper than others but you see, price is not a very important consideration especially for those who love their hair very much. They will not hesitate to pay for a high quality vitamin even if it's expensive.

The best thing that you can give to yourself is to consult a doctor first. Your doctor will be able to show you your treatment alternatives when it comes to treating hair loss. Remember that hair loss or alopecia cannot be cured, so it is best to prevent it from happening or from getting worse. Take your vitamin now and regain your hair's health and volume.

What is Biotin? Biotin is a type of vitamin B complex and it is sometimes known as vitamin H (H for hair). Biotin is particularly for anyone who is interested in promoting hair growth and growing thicker hair. Besides, it also ensures the overall health of skin and nails, assisting in the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and protein and maintaining the health of mind and emotional well-being of a person.

\"Biotin\"

Natural sources: Nuts, egg yolk, wheat bran, oat, barley, soy, cauliflower, liver and brewer's yeast. Biotin is also naturally produced in the human body by the good bacteria that lives in our digestive tract.

The recommended daily intake (RDA) of biotin is 300 mcg. However some experts recommend a daily intake of more than 1000mcg per day to get the result in strengthening nails, preventing hair loss and promoting thicker hair. Although this high dosage exceeds the recommended amount, it is not consider as toxic or dangerous as biotin is a water soluble vitamin and can be safely pass out from our body.

Is biotin deficiency common? The answer is no, but there it is a possibility that it can happen. An example of the occurrence of biotin deficiency is when one consumes a lot of raw egg whites. This usually happens to body builders as they consume lots of raw eggs in their daily diet.

Some of the common symptoms of biotin deficiency are rashes, dryness or itchiness of skin, brittle nails, grayish skin, muscle ache, depression and lethargy. Lack of biotin will also results in dermatitis and hair loss.

Also, biotin is not easily absorbed through the skin. It needs to be taken internally, rendering biotin shampoo as quite useless.

What are the benefits or effects by taking biotin supplements? Biotin helps the health of our hair by increasing the elasticity of the hair's cortex to prevent breakage, thickens the hair cuticle and diameter of the hair shaft and promotes hair growth. After taking biotin supplements, one may notice stronger hair and nails, faster growing hair and nails, thicker hair, increase of energy and healthier looking skin.

There must be adequate nutrients and vitamins to prevent hair loss, and for the hair to grow properly. If you want hair to grow faster, be sure to consume vitamins that will aid in providing more oxygen to the scalp area, and hence promoting growth.

For the strands to grow long, there are a variety of vitamins that will come in helpful. Some examples of useful substances include vitamin C, Biotin, Niacin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12, as well as vitamin E. Biotin helps to keep hair follicles healthy, and vitamin B helps prevent hair loss and graying.

\"Biotin For Hair\"

We usually hear a great deal about vitamins C and B. But what we don't hear so often, is vitamin E. Vitamin E has been found to be very effective in treating hair. It acts as an antioxidant that encourages blood circulation to the scalp area. This process means that more oxygen can be supplied to the hair cells. The increase in oxygen levels increase the life span of the cells as the cells get more nourishment.

Vitamin E For Hair Growth

In fact, vitamin E don't just benefit the hair. It also helps to strengthen the cells in other parts of the body, thereby improving the health of the individual.

This vitamin can be commonly found in many types of foods - soy beans, wheat, ready-to-eat cereals, grains, beans, spinach, nuts, eggs, and many other green leafy vegetables. If you find that your daily diet lacks the above ingredients, you can always consider taking health supplements in the form of pills and capsules to make up for the lack in vitamin E.

Although there are many benefits associated with consuming vitamin E, overeating may present various health problems. For instance, since vitamin E encourages blood to transport more oxygen to various parts of the body, it also means that the blood becomes thinner so that it can fulfill this function. The side effect is that this slows down blood clotting (due to having thinner blood).

Therefore, even though vitamin E helps promotes hair growth, it is not wise to consume heavy doses of vitamin E deliberately. Take it in moderation to ensure that the balance of the body is not upset by the sudden influx of vitamin E. A perfectly healthy adult should only take between 8 to 10 milligrams of vitamin E on a daily basis. If you feel like consuming more than that dosage, always consult a qualified physician before doing so.

Also, consume vitamins as a means to supplement your daily diet. Don't be overly dependent on these ingredients. Remember to get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, and exercise on a regular basis. Have a balanced diet and work on improving your metabolism rate.

Stress can be the root cause of many hair loss problems. So having a healthy lifestyle certainly helps to prevent such problems from arising. A small dosage of vitamins (such as vitamin E) daily to help boost overall health can also be an effective measure.

Vincent Du Vigneaud discovered biotin in 1940 after following up on research completed by M.A. Boaz in 1927. The main function of B7 is to assist in the reaction that helps your body's cells convert carbohydrates, fats and protein into an energy source that they can use. However, that's just one of the many things that this vital vitamin does. In the following article I am going to help you learn a little more about biotin by discussing four things you should know about vitamin B7.

1) IT IS A WATER SOLUBLE VITAMIN:- There are two types of vitamin; fat soluble (which dissolve in your body's fat cells) and water soluble (which dissolve in water). The two types differ in a number of ways. First, fat soluble vitamins are quite stable and difficult to destroy. Water soluble vitamins on the other hand are a lot more sensitive and can be destroyed by strong heat and light. Secondly, fat soluble vitamins can be stored in the body whereas water soluble vitamins cannot.

\"Biotin\"

Vitamin B7 is a water soluble vitamin. This means that you need to make sure you get your recommended daily allowance (RDA) of biotin each day which is 0.03mg for men and 0.01mg for women. You also need to make sure that you store, prepare and cook foods containing B7 in a way that ensures this vitamin is preserved.

4 Things You Should Know About Vitamin B7 (Biotin)

2) IT IS PRESENT IN NEARLY EVERY FOOD:- Almost every food contains at least a trace of vitamin B7. However, certain foods are much richer sources of the vitamin. Egg yolks, liver, milk, mushrooms and nuts are some of the best biotin sources around. Therefore, if none of these foods are currently part of your diet perhaps now is the time to start eating them.

3) THERE ARE A NUMBER OF FACTORS THAT CAN LEAD TO DEFICIENCIES:- Unlike most other vitamins, not consuming enough B7 is not the only thing that can cause a deficiency. Alcoholism can cause a deficiency by inhibiting the absorption of this vitamin. Some genetic disorders can also increase your vitamin B7 requirements which can then cause a deficiency even if you consume the RDA. Therefore, if any of the above factors apply to you then you may want to consider supplementation.

4) IT CAN ASSIST WITH DIABETES CONTROL:- Research has suggested that vitamin B7 can help people who suffer from diabetes (a condition where the body cannot regulate blood sugar levels effectively) in a number of ways. First, it can help lower blood sugar levels reducing some of the damage that diabetes can cause. Secondly, it can help protect against the neuropathy (nerve damage) associated with this condition. Therefore, if you suffer from diabetes this is another good reason to get your RDA of vitamin B7.

As you can see there's a lot more to biotin than helping your body get energy from the foods you eat. I hope this article has given you a greater understanding of this important vitamin and its role in your body.

This means that a good metabolism, and immune system are also key factors for growing healthy hair fast. So, your hair vitamin should contain specific nutrients that are essential for faster hair growth. For example, MSM lengthens the natural hair growth phase allowing greater lengths to be achieved. Biotin, another key ingredient, promotes cell growth, the production of fatty acids, metabolism of fats, and amino acids. These two ingredients in addition to the others (Folic Acid, Niacin, Silica, etc) are all essential for for maximizing hair growth.

The anagen phase is the hair's growth phase. It is genetically determined. This is why some people can grow very long hair, while others cannot grow hair past their shoulders. A person who has an angen phase lasting six years will achieve much greater lengths than a person with only a two year anagen. Why is this? Because the hair grows in three phases: the anagen is the growth phase, the catagen is the growth phase and the telogen is the shedding phase.

\"Biotin\"

Have you ever noticed that many women's hair will grow much longer than normal when they are pregnant. This is because the high levels of estrogen that are present during pregnancy lock the hair follicles into the growth phase for nine months. Shortly after giving birth, however, these hormone levels return to normal and many hairs immediately go into the catagen then telogen phase, making it seem like they are losing their hair.

Hair Growth Vitamins - Biotin, MSM And More

So what can you do to make your anagen as long as possible? Until recently, it was something only genetics and pregnancy could do. Now, however, there is another option - MSM. Methylsolfonylmethane, or MSM, is a natural form of organic sulfonyl sulfur. This compound is present in many foods, especially most raw fruits and green vegetables. MSM provides sulfur that is required for healthy collagen and keratin. These are very important for healthy hair. MSM repairs and creates healthy cells thus allowing hair to grow more rapidly and achieve greater lengths.

Your hair vitamins do not need to contain amino acids. This is because the use of an amino acid supplement is not necessary for growing longer hair. Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. Thy are found in foods of animal origin, such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Most Americans eat more than enough protein to supply these amino acids. Any excess protein will be excreted in urine. This excess protein also causes excess nitrogen to be excreted in the urine which has been been linked to reduced kidney function in old age as well as osteoperosis (due to excretion of calcium). Only STRICT vegetarians should be concerned about their protein intake.

Hair vitamins can increase your hair growth rate by up to 200%. However, to get the longest hair possible, you also need to eliminate all sources of breakage. If your hair is breaking at the same rate it is growing, it may seem as if your hair is not growing at all. Eliminating breakage involves the consistent use of gentle, but effective products.

Get Hair Vitamins that lengthen your anagen and promote growth.

This vitamin is also referred to as B7 and Vitamin H. If you have ever received a B12 shot from your doctor for increased energy, biotin works along those same lines. Biotin and hair loss are directly related.

Biotin, a naturally occurring substance in our bodies promotes hair re-growth and aids in the process of breaking down unsaturated fats. Studies have shown that a lack of vitamin H results in hair loss.

\"Biotin\"

One way vitamin H prevents loss is by increasing the hair's elasticity, which guards against breakage. B7 also thickens the cuticles to give you the appearance of a fuller head of hair.

Biotin is a member of the B-complex vitamin family. It was discovered in the 1930s and originally called vitamin H. In the 1940s, researchers found that when baby chickens were fed a high amount of raw egg whites they lost the hair around their eyes and developed a skin rash. (I have no idea what prompted such a study!) The symptoms vanished after egg yolk was added to the little chickadee' diet.

Food scientists determined there is a sugar and protein substance in raw egg whites that binds with biotin to prevent absorption. (That is why some athletes who drink raw eggs suffer from hair loss.) The egg yolk was identified as one of the best sources of biotin in diets.

Other food sources of biotin are vegetables, liver, milk, fish, grains, fruit, and nuts. For hair loss sufferers who do not want to eat a huge amount of liver and eggs (ugh!) to provide them with the necessary biotin, there are supplements available.

Although, biotin assists in the metabolism of fatty acids, carbohydrates and protein, its major benefit is strengthening hair and nails. Males and females who experience loss can restore their luxurious mane to its former shine by taking an effective supplement containing this vitamin.

A lack of biotin in the body can affect the condition of your hair and the deficiency can result:

* Thinning
* Breakage
* Loss

Biotin also keeps the skin healthy and reportedly boosts your energy level! Women who are pregnant or nursing may require an increased need for this supplement. Many women during pregnancy tend to be at a higher risk of deficiency. Research shows nearly half of pregnant women have reduced levels of this supplement, which can lead to hair loss.

Vitamin H supplements are recommended as a safe remedy to counteract hair loss in adults and children. Biotin is one treatment that works wonders for sufferers. B7 has also shown to be helpful in maintaining blood sugar levels.

Many biotin users report visible improvement in their hair, skin, nails, and energy level. The ideal amount of daily usage depends on the individual but an intake of 30 to 100 micrograms per day is considered a normal dosage for adults. For the millions of women and men experiencing loss, biotin can help re-grow hair to regain your crowning glory!

One of the greatest benefits of biotin and hair loss prevention, is there are no known side effects! These vitamins are water-soluble meaning they are not stored by the body so you cannot take too many! Vitamin H is flushed out of your system and new supplements must be taken every day to promote healthy hair growth.

There are a few especially outstanding food choices that contain higher levels of biotin which can be easily added to your family diet to help you to obtain the benefits of biotin. We'll go into those food items in just a minute. Very first, we'd really like to review the basics of adequate biotin consumption to give you an idea of simply how much biotin the body needs.

Adequate Intake (AI)
The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine - an independent, not for profit organization that works outside the federal government to provide unprejudiced and authoritative guidance for the open public - figured that there is not sufficient proof to be able to calculate a Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA), therefore they put in place Adequate Intake amounts. The Institute determined that your Adequate Intake for biotin should be between 35 and sixty micrograms (mcg) daily grown-up men and women.

Food Sources of Biotin
Biotin can be available in quite a few food items, although generally in lesser quantities than other water-soluble nutritional vitamins. Luckily, the biotin that your body requires is obtainable through a healthy diet which includes ingredients like eggs, nuts, veggies, fresh fruits, fresh fish, various meats, and certain dairy foods. It's also important to keep in mind that fresh foods will offer you higher vitamin level plus more biotin benefits as compared to processed foods.

Common Food Sources of Biotin

Eggs and Dairy
The foods that have the greatest biotin quantities are eggs, particularly egg yolks. Eggs may contain somewhere between 13 and twenty five micrograms of biotin based on how large they are and the way they're cooked. Cooking generally depletes foods of their total nutrients, but yet this doesn't mean that they lose all of their benefits. Eating raw egg whites is actually detrimental to raising biotin levels simply because they hinder the body's ability to soak up the nutrient. The yolk is actually where you are certain to get the best biotin benefits. In addition to eggs, milk, a number of cheeses, yogurt and other dairy products include reasonable levels of biotin.

Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits such as bananas, avocados and raspberries are good, nutrient loaded sources of vitamins like biotin. Vegetables that happen to be high in biotin content range from broccoli and cabbage to leafy greens like Swiss chard. Organic mushrooms, sweet potatoes, carrots along with cauliflower all offer greater levels of biotin.

Meat, Poultry and Fish
Almost all varieties of meat, poultry and fish are great, abundant sources of biotin. Chicken, turkey, beef and also pork include modest to high levels of the vitamin B7. Meat livers can include a full day's worth of vitamin B7 in just one serving. Fish such as tuna, haddock and salmon also possess good levels of the nutrient and are generally amongst the best seafood sources of biotin.

Nuts and Whole grains
Almonds and peanuts are wonderful sources of vitamin B7 and contain a whole day's adequate consumption for every 1 / 2 cup helping. Hazelnuts, commonly known by their somewhat more amusing name "Filbert Nut", present you with a great way to take in thirty micrograms for each 1 / 2 cup serving. Peanut butter can also provide as much as 30 micrograms for every helping. Whole grain breads, definitely not white breads, often have a good percent of your acceptable daily requirement.

For those who presently eat a well-balanced diet, especially one that contains some or all of the foods mentioned here, you're most likely keeping your own biotin levels right where they ought to be. If after reading this article you've realized that you're not consuming as many biotin-rich ingredients as you should be, simply begin to incorporate a few of these foods into your next dinner.
